Melina's Story

Melina* struggled for years with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a painful and debilitating condition. One common side effect is infertility, and Melina is no stranger to the negative pregnancy test. She would regularly take a pregnancy test while on a video call with her sister, letting her sister look at the test first before Melina would take a peek. Melina knew she could count on her sister for emotional support when the test inevitably showed a negative result.

One day, as Melina tells it, her daughter Cammie “popped out of nowhere”.

During a routine call with her sister, after taking yet another pregnancy test and expecting the usual negative result, Melina turned the camera to the test for her sister to announce the outcome. According to Melina, her sister “used cuss words” and Melina knew something was different... she was pregnant against all odds!

With her sister on the phone, Melina immediately said, “We have to find someone I can go to. The only places I know for pregnancy are OB/GYNs and Planned Parenthood.” She was nervous, uncertain and unsure of what to expect because of PCOS, while also still in denial about the positive pregnancy test.

Melina went to Planned Parenthood first. Staff at Planned Parenthood denied her an ultrasound, demonstrating the abortion business’s lack of care for women who are not abortion-minded. Melina just wanted to know if she was really pregnant and if her baby was okay. As she drove out of the Planned Parenthood parking lot, her mind and heart still in turmoil, Melina saw the Stanton Mobile parked on the street just in front of her car. “Well, let’s try here,” she said.

Roxy, Sarah and the team at Stanton welcomed Melina into the clinic with compassion and care. Melina remarked afterwards how "sweet and nice” the Stanton team was to her, in obvious contrast to Planned Parenthood’s disengaged staff. She found comfort and assurance in her time of nervousness and fear.

In the Stanton Mobile, where the staff are trained to provide appropriate and immediate care to women in crisis, Melina received a pregnancy test and an ultrasound in the same visit!

In spite of the shock, fear, and frustration she experienced earlier, Melina’s day ended with joy. She saw her “little bean” on the ultrasound screen and felt her heart melt at the first sight of her daughter.

Melina’s baby Cammie is now one year old! She’s a joyful, healthy toddler who lights up a room with her smile. And, in another unlikely but blessed turn of events, Melina is once again pregnant with Cammie’s little brother or sister. She immediately called Stanton this time around, knowing that she would find compassion and real-world solutions in what she calls her “safe space” - the Stanton Mobile. At her most recent visit, Melina brought Cammie and her dad Will to meet us, which made our day!

At Stanton Healthcare, we welcome clients like Melina every day. They are scared, nervous, uncertain, and don’t know where to go for the answers they need. And thanks to God’s faithful provision, the Stanton Mobile is parked outside the Planned Parenthood just waiting for those clients. These women find real hope and real healthcare at Stanton!
